Return Of Gamer-woman

I know it has been a while since I last posted. Four years ago I stopped writing for many reasons which I won’t go into because that is not why you are here. The most important thing is I have not stopped gaming. So what do I want to talk about today, the rise and fall of my most beloved of systems – the Nintendo DS/3DS

Since it has been so long let me explain my gaming history with Nintendo. Born in the 80’s I had the privilege to grow up in the Sega VS Nintendo age. This meant that during my childhood, my family chose a side and you may be surprised to know it wasn’t Nintendo but Sega we chose. In fact, my first Nintendo system did not come until around 1998. By then the Sega had come and gone and the Playstation 1 (PS1) had come around and the Sega was dropped off at goodwill. (I know…I know but we were young.) I never really bonded with these systems so to speak. I remember them fondly because of the time with my family, watching my dad and brother play them. I was never really great at side scrollers…something that has continued to this day as my pathetic attempt to play Vectorman can demonstrate (Poor Vectorman…we cannot even get past level 1).  Then Pokémon came into being and I was gifted my first Nintendo system with Yellow. This moment in my history would turn out to be a significant moment for me. The Pokémon path would have me follow the handheld Nintendo systems.

So why would the DS/3DS be such an important system for me? Because it opened more doors to the gaming world for me. I would start to pick games I would have an interest in rather than was recommended for me. More Importantly, I spread out from my pokémon games to other titles and genres. My first DS was actually the lite, a little white one I got when I moved from home to college. I have had some version of a DS for a little over a decade now, from my DS Lite to a DSi to the 3ds to the New 3ds. I have loved most…except for the 3ds which has caused me to implement the rule…never get a system when it first launches. (Sacrifice a Gamecube and a PSP for the 3ds and still pay a significant amount of money for the new system and watch the price drop from 260 to 170 and see how happy you are about it.)  This little moment in 2011 did cause me to step away from Nintendo…but, more importantly, it taught me a very important lesson….it doesn’t always pay off to be first to buy something brand new out of the gate. Something that I have applied to both cars and cell phones over the years.

The next question I am sure you are probably asking yourself is aren’t the DS and the 3ds two different systems. I would argue both yes and no. The 3ds is more than capable of playing all the DS games you want (including the downloaded DSi titles with a simple system transfer). Although admittedly trying to play a DS title on the newest 3DS model will cause a little glitch on the 3DS but it is doable with some patience.  That being said, unlike previous handheld generations you can play and insert all DS games into the 3ds, However, games will not play on a DS, and I would argue not all 3DS games can play in a normal 3ds…in the last few years, there have been New 3DS exclusives. It’s the fact that all DS games can (but not easily) play in the New 3DS that makes me loop this whole system experience together.

When the DS initially launched it was arguably one of only two handheld systems out there (the Playstation portable being the other one). Back in 2004 however the handheld gaming market was mostly dominated by Nintendo…then something happened. While people were busily playing Mario party on their DS, the Apple iPhone came out and changed the course of gaming forever. Suddenly there was an app store and new games were coming out every day. Smartphones would change the way people played their games, and it began to reflect in the sales data. In almost every instance that you look at Nintendo’s eternal data, the DS and the 3DS outsold their console-based units, with the Wii selling 102 million units (rounded up) and the WiiU which only sold a measly 14 million units, leaving the home console only selling 115 million units as a whole.   Compare these numbers to that of the DS and the 3DS, with the DS selling 154 million units and the 3DS (as of June 30th) selling 76 million units, a total of 229.89 million units. Outselling the home consoles by 115 million units. Making them arguably some of the best selling consoles out there.  These numbers prove the growing shift in the market to the portable platform rather than the home console. I think Nintendo also saw these numbers and saw the consumer shift from at-home console purchase along with the growing cellphone gaming market and decided to build the Switch which is the Hybrid of the at home and on the go play, striking a nice balance appealing to the at-home players like some of my most lovable friends, to the on the go player who likes to sit in front of the tv and play some pokémon while rewatching some old Star Trek or take their car to the park and enjoy some outdoor time while fishing in Animal crossing (yes I know the irony here).

I purchased my first DS Lite in early 2006 when I first moved into the dorms. Unwilling to have a pink one…because yes I am a girl but I didn’t want it to be too girly I picked a pearl white one. When my DS lite fell off my nightstand in 2007 and its corner joints snapped off and went ripping across my dorm room…and the system still worked I knew I had to replace it…and I did with another white one… A system may be the binding of a book, but it’s the pages inside that tell the story. From page one to the epilogue it’s everything in between that makes up your gaming story.

My gaming story with the DS started with a few missteps as I tried to find my identity as a gamer, remember this is my first significant step outside of Pokemon and maybe a few games on the PS1, that were my choices. These games would define me…teach me, reach me, make me smile, laugh, and cry. Some of these games would sit with me like a good story and I would just have to sit there and think about them for a little while…before I was ready to move on to the next adventure.  You know what? I think this will be easier if I do this as a list form….everyone likes lists right? Here is how I will break it down, since I arguably have or had played more DS titles then 3DS titles, I will have a top 10 DS titles followed by my top five 3DS titles.  Now, these are my top favorites, games I have gone back and played over and over again….or whose stories have sat with me long past the time I played them.  I acknowledge the fact that favorite games are a deeply personal thing and my list might not match up your list and that is ok…let me know your top favorites in the comments below. 🙂

DS titles Top 10

10: Advance Wars Dual Strike: This little turned-based strategy series came to my attention with the GBA (Gameboy Advance). I really enjoyed the gameplay elements of this series…and often find myself longing for it. I did make a solid attempt at Days of Ruin which had a very solid and intriguing story…however I got stuck in one scenario and was never able to beat Days of Ruin.  Why is it on the list…because it’s one of those titles that if a new one dropped tomorrow I would absolutely buy it…I may not be able to beat it but I would absolutely buy it.  (Side note, there is a Switch title that is similar to Advance Wars called Wargrove…if you are like me and hankering for a little something like Advance Wars give it a try…and yes I got stuck in it as well.)

9: Glory of Heracles: This is a title that got my attention by its opening credits. I was at my local Gamestop when I heard the opening titles…and that just won me over. When I played the game, I found myself really enjoying the story…so much that I replayed it almost immediately upon completing it the first time. Now it’s been about a decade since I last played this RPG, but I still recommend it to anyone who will listen to me about it….and I still love the opening title (very much listening to it now :).

8: Digimon World DS/ Dawn & Dusk: Digimon is a series I have always enjoyed…but the Digimon worlds of the past have always left something to be desired. The Digimon games for the DS both world and Dusk & Dawn is where I felt the series finally hit its stride as a series. There was a story and adventure to go on, and it wasn’t just about fighting Digimon. Yes you could argue they were following Pokemon’s formula…but hey Pokémon’s formula works (sometimes a little too well). If you like Digimon I recommend this series…if you can find them. (If not I recommend Cyber Sleuth complete edition for the Switch which is another solid entry.)

7: Professor Layton: Unwound Future (Lost Future in the EU AND AU): Professor Layton is a series I have stepped away from in recent years…I wasn’t happy with going backwards in the timeline of the series. (I am not fond of this in any series…move forward not backwards people). The first three Layton games are wonderful but Unwound Future is my favorite of the Layton series. The only one to get me straight up bawling at the end of the game…the story was that good.  I have never stopped thinking about this game…and sometimes I wish I didn’t step away from the series…but I guess if I returned…I would be going backwards.

6 Final Fantasy IV DS Remake: I didn’t start playing the Final Fantasy series until 7, and by the time IV had come out to the DS I had played 8 and 10. I tried 9 I really did but I had trouble with loading screens (which I later learned is the game just took its time and I was impatient..). Anyways because I had developed a fondness for Final Fantasy by the time 4’s remake came around it was a no brainer. I found like most Final Fantasys the story was fantastic. I can go on and on comparing 4 with its fellow Final Fantasy titles but that is another blog for another day…for now, this was a welcomed addition to my gaming Library. It like Glory of Heracles it also has a wonderful remastered opening sequence the introduces new and old players to this new world.

5 Puzzle Quest…the whole darn series: This combined two of my favorite elements…an RPG story..with the fun of gem-matching (think of bejeweled or candy crush with story elements.).  When last year they announced that Puzzle Quest was coming to the Switch…I squealed..yes I actually squealed out loud I was so excited.  I even play a version of it on my phone now (Marvel’s Puzzle Quest). While Galactrix played very differently then most of the Quest series it was still an enjoyable entry. The best part is it’s a game you can drop for a few years…and come back to and not be completely lost. Its replay value alone is why I love this series so much.

4 Pokémon Black and White: It is no secret I am a huge fan of Pokémon…It has been the driving force behind my system upgrades and the eventual exploration of different gaming titles.  The DS was lucky to see two generations of Pokémon and a remake of Gold and Silver. While I adore the remake of Generation 2 of Pokémon…and think highly of Pearl and Diamond…It’s generation 5 Black and White I go back to most often. It was the first Pokémon series that had a storyline that treated me like an adult…and plus it’s the generation that has a lot of my favorite Pokémon in it…including my beloved Joltik. It had NPC’s who I enjoyed interacting with and was the last generation to be a core Pokémon that has some difficulty to it.  One last point about this generation…it is the only generation to have the story continue with Black and White 2…all others have been a rehash of the story…so gen 5 rules!

3 Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney Trilogy. This series is the only one I have bought most often. I played the games first when they were sold individually..then again when they came out as a Trilogy set for the New 3DS…and will eventually break down and again buy it for the Switch…I just love the series.  I think I have bought every title in the series at least once. It’s just a smart, quick-witted game. I love the detective elements and the courtroom elements and the Trilogy is just good. (Although I also recommend Apollo Justice as well…we will get to him in the 3ds section.) The rich characters and the stories…this is just a good series…and yes I think I will buy it again when it’s on sale :).

2 Tetris DS: Yes I know girls like Tetris…everyone likes Tetris. Yes, I have Tetris 99 on my Switch and there are a lot of elements in that game that it takes from the DS version…but the DS version will always be my favorite…just because of the hours and hours of fun I had with my friends with this game. That coupled with some Nintendo themed music like Mario and Zelda made me really love this game. It’s sad with the online play cut off now this game doesn’t get played as much as it use too…and like I said 99 is now around for the Switch…so I can get my Tetris fix when I need it…but it’s not the same as playing in your dorm room with your buddies.

1 Sid Meier’s Civilization Revolution: I had to give it to this game…the amount of times I have replayed this game and continue to play it is just amazing. The new one confuses and confounds me…but the DS version is just enjoyable. I cannot tell you how many lunch breaks I took playing this game. When my 3DS stopped working briefly and I went back to my DS games, this was the first one I picked back up. I will never ever sell this game. It is easy to pick up…you can win and lose just as easily depending on the moves you make. It’s just a fun game…and eventually, I will figure out the Switch version…or I will just keep playing the DS one.

3DS Favorites top five

5 Phoenix Wright Ace Attorney Dual Destinies: I like this game because of its combination of everything you have been through in the series so far. Both Apollo (who was a spin off character) and Phoenix’s story….In a way, it sort of feels like a goodbye the way it was written. While I hope this isn’t true…the way this series was written and played out…just feels like a love letter to the fans. Time will tell if there will be more…but for now, I will just have to be satisfied with this.

4:  Radiant Historia: This was a game sort of like Glory of Heracles in my mind, under the radar at first, unlike Glory which got my attention with a song, Historia was recommended to me. Hadn’t heard of the game before, I looked at reviews to see that this game was a remake and it had such love around it…I had to try it. I fell in love with this game. It isn’t a simple straight forward RPG which I love…there are some back and forth, jumping between different timelines. It’s a game whose world is easy to get lost in and the end game villain is a pain in the butt to defeat…but because it’s just ever so different than the run of the mill RPGs I am used to this is what makes it a great entry to my list and a fun game to replay.

3: Pokémon X&Y: While not my favorite entry in the Pokémon franchise, this one holds its own. Though a victim of the gimmick it does have a pretty interesting side story…which I wish they fleshed out just a bit more. X & Y beat out Sun and Moon because of the friendship element. I spent a lot of time with my friend filling out the Pokédex to get a 100% completion. Plus the addition of Fairy helped make my buddy Bulbasaur really useful once more.

2 Professor Layton VS Phoenix Wright: This was the game I never knew I wanted until it was announced. It was everything I could have wished for and more, somehow combining two different styles of art and writing to create this masterpiece. I took one weekend, essentially locked myself in my room and played it through and it was glorious. If you are a fan of either series I highly recommend it.

1: Fire Emblem Awakening: This was another game that was recommended to me by a very dear friend. I had not played any games in the Fire Emblem series before, I had stayed away because I was afraid it would be a continuing story. I was assured Awakening wasn’t like that…an independent story…and an interesting one at that. Awakening drew me into the series and I have played a couple of different titles now, from Warriors to Fates…but it’s Awakening that will always hold a bit of a special place for me because it introduced me to this world. And no it is not lost on me that it is the same company that was behind Advance Wars…part of my top 10 from the original list is also behind the Fire Emblem series.

The DS and the 3DS have played such a significant role in my development as a player and as a person. Some stories have left deep thinking moments…others have helped me pass time through a difficult period of my life. These are the gaming systems of my adult life. In a life that throws constant curveballs, having a safe adventure to go on is important. Although I have the switch now, I don’t feel they are as durable as the DS’s were. Its clam-shaped design made it easy to stick in my purse and take it with me. I cannot say this of the Switch…and while it is hands down more powerful then my DS’s, It will never be as portable, as long-lasting or as diverse as the DS, the predecessor to so much. And while the last game for the 3DS has been produced…the legacy of this system will not be soon forgotten. The little Dual Screen system that stole my heart.

Thank you for reading…I am hoping to do more of these although not on a regular schedule at the moment. Please like and subscribe for more content….and if there is a past article you would like an update on or you have your own personal list of favorite games please feel free to comment below.

pokemon spotlight: starting birds

The pokemon world is vast, with many many different pokemon to pick from, from strong to weak, many battles to a world that you as the player must save. We all start off our journeys small however, When you turn on that pokemon game for the first time, you are given a choice of thee starters, always fire, water, and grass. Then you are sent on your journey with a pokedex and balls to build your team up. It never fails though your first few grassy patches on your own you will encounter one of three guanteed types. a normal pokemon, a bug type and a bird. for the latter two you will likely out level there usefullness as you progress but the world is large and a reliable flyer will likely stay at your side for a long while. With this Spotlight instead of talking about one starting bird, i decided to do all of them, from pidgey to fletchling and all that fall in between. I have two rules that allow this flyer on this list, one it must start off as a bird, no bugs that evolve into flying. Two you must be able to catch them before you arrive at your first gym.

So who quailifies, i think most of you know, From gen 1, you have pidgey and spearow. From gen 2 we add in hoothoot, (pidgey and spearow appear again here. In gen 3 we add tallow and wingul to the mix. Gen 4 is starly, gen 5 we have pidove, and finally in gen 6 we have fletchling. I am going to try and not make this article two big but before we get to the ranks, maybe we should take a little stroll down discription lane first.

Pidgey’s family: Pidgey is probably the most famous out of all the birds on the list, well known to fans of the anime and gamers alike. Pidgey is the only bird in this group of starter birds that not only gets two evolutions (pidgeotto at 18 and pidgot at 36) but it also gets a mega evolution. That is high praise in deed, from both fans and the pokemon company to give one of the first bird types that most players run into a mega. The train doesn’t stop there either for pidgey, no this birds fan base grew even more when earlier this year Twitch played pokemon. A whole lore built around the game and Pidgey became so much more to people. it became bird jesus…the protector of the helix. I tell you out of all the starter birds here…pidgey’s fame beats all of them.

.

Spearow: poor forgotten and neglected Spearow. This bird was released the same generation in the same areas as Pidgey, but this guy is often neglected and forgotten for one of two reasons. One likly reason, gen one is oozing with birds and it just gets worse after. two Pidgey has two evolutions Spearow just has the one fearow. dispite all this, fearow is a really decent flyer who learns one of my favorite flying moves drill peck. This is a ferce bird type that deserves just as much love as pidgey. Sadly though…i think pidgey got a better agent.

Hoothoot: I honestly don’t have much to say about this guy, all my playthoughs in gen 2 i rocked spearow all the way though. I really can’t think of single time i really played with this guy. i will say this though, i really like owls so i have always been a big fan of the design. Its kind of sad though that this is the only instance of owls in the game. I have used this bird to breed with snorlax though, Noctowl learns zen headbutt, one of my favorite psychic moves, breeding it with a snorlax (holding a full incense) you will get a little munchlax born that knows this move. It is a difficult process but to me makes this starter bird worth having around.

Wingull: Oh wingull so cute…so damn annoying. Its only when playing oras did i remeber how annoying this bird is, and how much fun it is to electrocute the crap out of it when i run into it. Most starting birds have it rough with electric, ice and rock out to get them, but add water to the mix, wingull can’t even look at an electric pokemon with out fainting. Do not even get me started on Pelipper, I just have never been a big fan of its evolution. Sure its nice the game gives you a water type, especially since the first gym you come across is a rock type, but no.

Taillow: this is another generation 3 starting bird and honestly the better of the two. Taillow has a little more durbility then wingull ever had, but i am afraid unlike wingull if it wasn’t for ruby and sapphire rerelease this might fall into to the forgotten bird catigory. like wingull and hoothoot this little one only has a single evolution. I honestly forgot this pokemon existed until i was trying to complete my dex in Y, that is really sad, because taillow was also featured in the anime as on of ash’s pokemon. the problem here i think is its move pool is very shallow and the first three gyms where starting birds can really shine. Hoenn is just not a good place for starter birds with shallow move pools and gyms that don’t really take advantage of thes starting critters, gen 3’s starter birds just get obscured. so while design wise taillow is one of my favorites, it never really makes into a party.

Starly: in gen 2 and gen 2 the starting bird types have ranged from not choosen because there were better and more familer options there, to competly useless and forgetable. When Pearl and diamond rolled around i think many pokemon fans were looking for a change in this trend, and what we got was starly. For me at least this little bird impressed the heck out of me, staying on my team though the elite four (five). This was the first starter bird in a long while that had pretty unexpected natually learned moves. I mean it learns close combat, then it has a pretty nice arrary of teachable moves as well. Plus this little guy is tough, i played though gen 4 twice, and both times i had a starly at my side. This one is one of the few starter birds you can take to the elite four and know they will be right there till the end. This is the only one on this list, i want to have a mega evolution to.

Pidove: this derpy thing, I can’t blame its design, honestly unova is more of a city scape, and supposdily designed around good old NYC. You can’t go a block in nyc without running into a pigion, so to have one in the game espeically in gen 5 must have been a no brainer to the designers or unova. My complaint with this isn’t pidoves design even though i really hate the male design, but thats ok i primarily go female anyways. My complaint with this guy, is more to the fact given how awesome starly was in gen 4 pidove is kind of a let down. no where near as strong as its predecessors i think pidove is doomed that as the years drag on to be forgotten like little taillow and hoothoot. Unlike hoenn though, unova has a few more bird types later game, so if you havn’t ditched by then you likely will by the end of game. its design is great its just if your a player like me who has been there for every generation, to see how stater birds can excel then the following generation we return to mediocrity. poor little pidove.

Fletchling: Well we have seen it all with starting birds, from gods, to forgetable and everything in between, but until gen 6 we hadn’t seen a starting bird quite like this one. Until fletchling all starting birds were normal flying with wingull being the only exception, now we have this one that as it evolves gains fire typing. None of these birds had been featured in a story. this all changed with the latest entry into the pokemon universe. the game starts off with as i would call it a smart ass little fletchling waking up out character, and when the game closes out we see probably the same smart ass fletchling flying away, talk about a good agent, (must be using pidgys). For a starting bird fletchling is probably the most useful bird on this list, not only does it gain a fire typing, it gets flame body, making talonflame the perfect pokemon mother(or father) to what ever pokemon you might be trying to hatch. Example pick up five eggs from the breeder, fly to Luminous city to bike around in a circle, until the five hatch, (hatching faster due to flame body) then taking flying to the next city to check on your new babies potential, just to start the process over again.

So now you have met, or reintroduced yourselves to the starter birds how would i rank them.

1 Fletchling, for its ability to help with breeding and its decent combat skills.

2 Starly, decent move pool, access to fighting and some of flyings best move sets.

3 Spearow: Fogotten by many, but not by me. a decent all around bird with the potential to take you end game

4 Pidgey: while a star in its own right with being dubbed Bird Jesus and getting a mega stone. compared to the others pidgy is just average bird.

5 Hoothoot: learns some intresting moves, but overshadowed in its own game by two birds from the previous generation. great for breeding move zen headbutt into other pokemon

6 Pidove: doomed to be forgottened, just an average bird with nothing really special going for it besides having two forms based on gender.

7 Taillow: Forgotten warrior of hoenn, and taillow was in the anime. Just an average starting bird with nothing to really make her stand out

8 Qingull: falls way to easily in battle, while it might be able to beat fletchling in a fight due to typing, in the end wingulls frailitys just makes it the worst of the starting birds.

What do you guys think, am i being fair. How would you rank these guys an why? Anyways until next time.

Oh and on operation hoenn christmas day, this week i am going to start breeding turtwigs to send over, who will you choose/

Gen V Review

I have a weird relationship with this generation in particular, Gen V came out just weeks after the original 3ds launched and i was still reeling from my disappointment in it. I played a little without a walk though but my heart was beginning to be stolen by another. I soon soul find myself seeking the precious, instead of the pokèball, and when Nintendo announced the price drop, then free games i wasn’t interested in, i found myself angry, and soon would turn my back on the game and Nintendo for two years.

https://i0.wp.com/cdn.bulbagarden.net/upload/thumb/8/8d/643Reshiram.png/250px-643Reshiram.png             https://i0.wp.com/cdn.bulbagarden.net/upload/1/18/644Zekrom_Dream.png                https://i0.wp.com/cdn.bulbagarden.net/upload/thumb/c/c3/646Kyurem.png/250px-646Kyurem.png

Sometime this summer after almost three years of exclusive play on lotro (lord of the rings online) i found myself growing bored of it, i had started to play more games on my phone but found they just were not long enough and constantly wanted me to buy stuff. So after cleaning up a bit i found my old DSI hanging out on my dresser, i looked though games i hadn’t played yet and pokèmon black was staring at me. So i popped it in and restarted my journey where i had left off two years ago. I found the story engaging and for the first time in two years pokèmon had managed to recapture my heart. (this is why i think i am still obsessive about this series i have two years to make up on). After some time my love to Pokemon regrew, as soon as i finished black i jumped right to black 2.

https://i0.wp.com/cdn.bulbagarden.net/upload/thumb/d/dc/Black_EN_boxart.png/250px-Black_EN_boxart.png                                       https://i0.wp.com/cdn.bulbagarden.net/upload/thumb/3/34/Black_2_EN_boxart.png/250px-Black_2_EN_boxart.png

i love how it jumps a head a bit between the series of black and black 2, instead of replaying the same game with some tweaks it gives you a whole new chance to to check out unova from fresh eyes…that is really cool.

For the record i did try it on the 3ds collecting dust, i was still angry at it, with some persuasion from my friends i traded it in for the 3ds xl, fresh start for me and Nintendo. It worked out and now here we are.

OK lets start off with the negative:

-C-gear, i found this to be a huge let down from what pearl and diamond Pokètch. i barely used the lower screen and most of the time it was off for me. I understand where they were going, it just wasn’t pulled off well for me.

-Legendary, this set to be honest i found a lot less appealing, i hated tornadus and crew. i think mainly for me, its the fact that the main legendary really doesn’t come in until the end, some of the last battles. Giving me very little time to connect with my newly caught legendary.

-My friend scolded me when i said gen II’s starters were forgettable, saying that it was this gens who will be forgotten. While i like Snivy, honestly she is right. The fire starter Tepig is the third time we have seen a fire fighting. and Oshawott is a solid water type, but there are better water pokèmon out there. Snivy was the highlight here because with was a speedy grass who could take a hit.

-Bridges, to many blank bridges with very little to do on them.

– musicals…i thought the contests were bad now we have musicals which i found twice as confusing. I will stop complaining about the contests if the musicals don’t come back.

– Cheren, our “Rival” Really didn’t grow much, he did get a gym in black and white 2 but by then it was too late. The rival story is really over shadowed by N’s and Bianca’s. Honestly N made a better rival anyways.

-The Victory road, to much in and our and sliding down a hill for me.

Now the positive.

– i love the Villain story here, this is the first series to really pose a question to the player and makes you think, even though we essentially don’t make choices N’s story is truly a memorable one.

-Bianca: i debated on her, putting her as a positive or a negative, i ultimately rules on positive, her story line is interesting too, but all to short. The battle between her and her father, her fathers and her’s fears and her eventual growth is another engaging thing.

-Gym leaders to the rescue: I loved this part of the story line, Finally the world is in danger and its not all up to a 10 year old to save the world. The Gym leaders come in and help you out, defending you, and clearing the way so you can do what needs to be done. i love this.

– Great second round, Most of the time when we get a third game its a replay of the originals with some tweaks to it. Black and White, followed with Black 2 and white 2, these two take place a few years after the events of black and white. You do get some new areas, the original victory road is gone, (Thank god)  and you get to see the after math of the events that took place in the original black and white game.  *If you haven’t played them i highly recommend playing the second part to the color you picked the first time around, because it gives you the other dragon.

-Black 2 access to old legendaries, finally got my latios…only down side was the regi’s again. i will admit one thing they are easier to catch with the dusk ball which was not there in gen III, still doesn’t mean i was thrilled to see them.

-Transfers: While i wasn’t so thrilled at first with the new way to catch, i quickly adapted to it, and found it way more efficient then the previous generations. Making transfers a breeze, which is nice because with the transporter and bank on the way, moving everyone over to black and black 2 has been a priority.

-Transferring story, If you connect Black up to black 2 it will load up your previous game, so when it does flash backs you see your previous interactions with N, or previous accomplishments in the gen before.

-Black and white 2: The movies, while i hated the musicals and contests i sort of enjoyed the movie part, i think because if gave me a chance to test drive pokèmon i normally wouldn’t play otherwise.

-Reusable Tm’s. In previous generations you had one shot at a TM, and if it was rare like earthquake you had to think carefully about who you used it on. Thanks to this generation i can finally use something like Earthquake, still smartly but helps me build a better team.

Now for the pokèmon. To start with neither Trubbish nor Vanillish will be on either list, while there not horrible pokèmon they are not really good, i however do not buy the idea that there horrible because of the design, there have been far worse designs over the years, which i have covered in the past. Besides after 15+ years playing this game, i am used to weird pokèmon, i mean come on…there are fighting eggs and i pile of sludge out there.

First for the bottom 6

6:https://i0.wp.com/cdn.bulbagarden.net/upload/thumb/1/1a/632Durant.png/250px-632Durant.png Durant: This isn’t a bad Pokèmon, its on the list mainly because i am absolutely terrified of ants. When i was a little girl visiting my great aunt and uncle in texas. Me and my brother were playing with an ant hill, that ant hill turned out out to be fire ants. To this day i remember its pain they inflected. Since then i have been scared of ants, and Durant is an ant, so its on the list.

5:https://i0.wp.com/cdn.bulbagarden.net/upload/thumb/c/c3/519Pidove.png/250px-519Pidove.png  https://i0.wp.com/cdn.bulbagarden.net/upload/thumb/a/a3/520Tranquill.png/250px-520Tranquill.png  https://i0.wp.com/cdn.bulbagarden.net/upload/thumb/d/d0/521Unfezant.png/250px-521Unfezant.png Pidove Family: This isn’t necessarily a bad bird, its just a huge let down after the predecessor Starly. Starly’s family in generation IV was just so good for a starting bird, and as it grew it got better. This guy in comparison is just not all that good.

4: https://i0.wp.com/cdn.bulbagarden.net/upload/thumb/c/cb/504Patrat.png/250px-504Patrat.pnghttps://i0.wp.com/cdn.bulbagarden.net/upload/thumb/3/3e/505Watchog.png/250px-505Watchog.png Patrat: Another victim of two many better pokèmon out there. This one also freaks me out a bit. Those Eyes..i am just not a fan of it. At least Rattata was cute, and sort of stayed cute when it evolved. those crazy eyes….i just can’t deal with them.

3: https://i0.wp.com/cdn.bulbagarden.net/upload/thumb/6/67/561Sigilyph.png/250px-561Sigilyph.pngSigilyph: Ok this one just pissed me off. I battled it many times, and it always gave me a hard time. There in every generation that one Pokèmon that is over used by npc, that piss the crap out of you. For me its Sigilyph.

2: https://i0.wp.com/archives.bulbagarden.net/media/upload/9/9b/Kami_Trio_Sugimori.pngTornadus, Thundurus, Landorus: I wouldn’t mind these three if they were not so difficult to get them. In a single black game you can only get two out of the three. In black 2 i could catch them using Dream radar, they were a pain to catch there, but at least they got me moving i guess. Still i am not a fan of these three.

1: https://i0.wp.com/cdn.bulbagarden.net/upload/thumb/2/2f/515Panpour.png/96px-515Panpour.pnghttps://i0.wp.com/cdn.bulbagarden.net/upload/thumb/8/83/516Simipour.png/96px-516Simipour.pnghttps://i0.wp.com/cdn.bulbagarden.net/upload/thumb/e/e1/513Pansear.png/96px-513Pansear.pnghttps://i0.wp.com/cdn.bulbagarden.net/upload/thumb/7/7c/514Simisear.png/96px-514Simisear.pnghttps://i0.wp.com/cdn.bulbagarden.net/upload/thumb/6/6b/511Pansage.png/96px-511Pansage.pnghttps://i0.wp.com/cdn.bulbagarden.net/upload/thumb/2/24/512Simisage.png/96px-512Simisage.pngThe Pan family: I really don’t like the monkey pokèmon, and these three are annoying. I just don’t like these guys, and there evolutions don’t help. I really don’t like these guys.

Top 6

6https://i0.wp.com/cdn.bulbagarden.net/upload/thumb/a/ac/622Golett.png/96px-622Golett.png: https://i0.wp.com/cdn.bulbagarden.net/upload/thumb/6/68/623Golurk.png/250px-623Golurk.pngGolurk: This huge golem of a pokèmon, showed up for me in black and White, but i never played him until Y. He is very impresive for a ghost pokèmon. he actually scared me a bit when i first met him due to his huge side, but Golurk can be a gentle giant who can put a sever smack down on your opponents. I was very pleased to have him on my side on Y.

5: https://i0.wp.com/cdn.bulbagarden.net/upload/thumb/8/8e/607Litwick.png/250px-607Litwick.pnghttps://i0.wp.com/cdn.bulbagarden.net/upload/thumb/a/a5/608Lampent.png/250px-608Lampent.pnghttps://i0.wp.com/cdn.bulbagarden.net/upload/thumb/6/65/609Chandelure.png/250px-609Chandelure.pngChandelure: This is the perfect example to me of the game having way to many good pokèmon, and some just get ignored. This one came to my attention recently as well, trying to learn ghost pokèmon better for another top 6, i started training a litwick, boy did this little guy impress me. Enough to become a competitive member of a team for myself. A the fact it automatically learns a grass move, and a good one at that makes it a powerful little ally. Don’t believe me check him out for yourself. i promise it won’t steal you soul…

4: https://i0.wp.com/cdn.bulbagarden.net/upload/thumb/5/5c/610Axew.png/250px-610Axew.pnghttps://i0.wp.com/cdn.bulbagarden.net/upload/thumb/0/05/611Fraxure.png/250px-611Fraxure.pnghttps://i0.wp.com/images2.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20110320155524/pokemon/images/7/72/Ononokusu1.pngHaxorus: This seems to be a running theme for these first three. pokèmon whose power i would have never known if it wasn’t for Y. while i wrote up my reviews for X i also played Y shortly after i finished X. In Y Haxorus and Golurk became strong members to my final team, Neither one disappointed me, when i needed them the most. Something she reminded again recently when i did an online battle with a friend, and with half my team down she came though and protected me again.

3: https://i0.wp.com/static4.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20101219040507/es.pokemon/images/1/18/Lillipup.pnghttps://i0.wp.com/cdn.bulbagarden.net/upload/thumb/9/96/507Herdier.png/250px-507Herdier.pnghttps://i0.wp.com/cdn.bulbagarden.net/upload/thumb/3/3e/508Stoutland.png/250px-508Stoutland.pngStoutland: Pokèmon is just full of normal type pokèmon, In every generation you get a couple of them, most are decent to useless with very few stand outs. This is a stand out of the normal family. This is just a power house, and if breed correctly you can have an elemental powerhouse that can leave your opponent crying. On top of it, this one really doesn’t have an awkward middle phase which makes this guy even better.

2: https://i0.wp.com/cdn.bulbagarden.net/upload/thumb/f/f8/595Joltik.png/250px-595Joltik.pnghttps://i0.wp.com/cdn.bulbagarden.net/upload/thumb/7/7a/596Galvantula.png/250px-596Galvantula.pngJoltik: By now i am sure you guys think i am crazy, I am terrified of ants but don’t have a single issue with spiders. I think by now you guys know i love this family and i have one currently on my Y cartage that i am working with. While its not the strongest of the bugs, its one of the cutest and one of my favorites to come out of this generation.

1https://i0.wp.com/cdn.bulbagarden.net/upload/thumb/f/f7/633Deino.png/250px-633Deino.pnghttps://i0.wp.com/cdn.bulbagarden.net/upload/thumb/a/a6/634Zweilous.png/250px-634Zweilous.pnghttps://i0.wp.com/cdn.bulbagarden.net/upload/thumb/3/3e/635Hydreigon.png/250px-635Hydreigon.pngHydreigon: I have said it before and i will say it again, you don’t spend 64 levels with anything and not grow a little attached to it. I first met Hydreigon fighting the final boss in Black Ghetsis, That sucker was tough and had a counter for half my team. This is a powerful Pokèmon, but a high level evolve. I knowing i was bouncing to black 2 quickly bred and sent over a baby Deino over to my black 2 game. Smart move on my part and it became a powerful ally, and honestly out of everyone on this list, he needs a mega.

So what are your thoughts on the fifth Generation? It is obvious from this i was a big fan of this generation, it was the one that returned me back to the world of both Pokèmon and Nintendo for that this generation will always be a little special to me.

My Top 6 Ice Pokèmon

well the weather outside is frightful all right, with a snow/ice storm outside my window now seems the perfect time to give you all a list of my top 6 ice pokèmon.

Like all top 6’s no legendaries are allowed on this list. So without further delay let me get started.

6: https://i0.wp.com/cdn.bulbagarden.net/upload/thumb/2/23/471Glaceon.png/250px-471Glaceon.pngGlaceon: This one almost got bumped from a list, but a friend argued with me and won. Glaceon is another eeveelition, its defiantly one of the prettier ones. Now we are getting into the more interesting way to evolve an Eevee, you have to be around a cold stone to get your new frozen friend. This is not one of my top eevee’s for one reason only, its sibling vaporeon can do most of what glaceon does. It is a beautiful pokèmon no doubt about it.

5: https://i0.wp.com/cdn.bulbagarden.net/upload/thumb/b/b5/220Swinub.png/250px-220Swinub.pnghttps://i0.wp.com/cdn.bulbagarden.net/upload/thumb/4/49/221Piloswine.png/250px-221Piloswine.pnghttps://i0.wp.com/cdn.bulbagarden.net/upload/thumb/d/d0/473Mamoswine.png/250px-473Mamoswine.png Mamoswine Family: This Ice ground type started off life in pokèmon with just two evolutions, then they added mamoswine, this ice tank is a pretty solid critter. While he isn’t as much fun to ride on on x as rhyhorn still a solid pokèmon and with a move pool to back it up this is a good one to have on your side.

4:https://i0.wp.com/hydra-media.cursecdn.com/pokemon.gamepedia.com/thumb/c/c3/712_Bergmite.png/180px-712_Bergmite.png https://i0.wp.com/static.giantbomb.com/uploads/scale_small/15/155448/2565928-250px-713avalugg_dream.png Avalugg: Avalugg and Bergmite are new to the world of pokèmon. He impressed me while i was working on raising Bergmite up. he proved to have a solid defense and could take a blast from a flame thrower and stand for one more round, not many pure ice times can say that. He looks a little strange at first with his flat back, but you know by now you think strange would be nothing new in my world.

3: https://i0.wp.com/cdn.bulbagarden.net/upload/thumb/9/9f/363Spheal.png/250px-363Spheal.pnghttps://i0.wp.com/cdn.bulbagarden.net/upload/f/f6/364Sealeo.pnghttps://i0.wp.com/cdn.bulbagarden.net/upload/thumb/6/61/365Walrein.png/250px-365Walrein.pngWalrein Family: speaking tanks, Walrein at first glance when introduced in Gen III reminded me of another water ice Seel from generation one Seel and dougong, and i promptly named it seel once i caught it. However it turned out to be much more impressive then Dougong ever was. This one has solid stats and the defense to back it up its a solid family who would make any trainer lucky to have it on their side.

2https://i0.wp.com/cdn.bulbagarden.net/upload/thumb/2/2a/698Amaura.png/250px-698Amaura.pnghttps://i0.wp.com/cdn.bulbagarden.net/upload/thumb/9/9e/699Aurorus.png/250px-699Aurorus.pngAurorus: Making her second appearance on the top 6 the beautiful Aurorus, this pokèmon stole my heart when the first announced the fossils, i know everyone went gaga over tyrunt, but amaura was the one who caught my attention. While not the strongest ice on this list, it still has a decent enough stats and move pool to make it competitive. This is not a throw away pokèmon for which i am glad. I am happy this exists.

1: https://i0.wp.com/cdn.bulbagarden.net/upload/thumb/a/ab/131Lapras.png/250px-131Lapras.pngLapras: No one who has been reading my posts should be surprised to see my old friend. I don’t know if you have noticed by now, i tend to not have a lot of single evolution pokèmon on my lists. I like Pokèmon who evolve because it it gives me a sense of accomplishment, i guess that is what makes Lapras so unusual for me. Lapras has never had an evolution, never has and given we are now in our 6th game and still no evolutions probably will never have one. So why do I love them so much, Good question. Lapras as seen me though five generations, and no matter how tough the situation has gotten in game, this little one always sees me though. Recently coming though the new elite four in X, i was counting on my other pokèmon to help me though the five elite members. Three out of four elite four members had to be handled by my Lapras, when i tried to give her a break to let my fairy handle the dragons…but nope my fairy went down leaving Lapras to sweep the dragons, the fire and help out with the water. This is just one of many stories i can share with you, And its one of the many reasons Lapras has time, after time, after time, proven why it is an invaluable member of my team. Lapras will always be my number one Pokèmon, and my favorite ice pokèmon.

So how about your guys? what are your favorite ice types.

Also I am thinking strongly of doing a new top ten list with some new pokèmon. what do you think?

My Top 6 Favorite Rock Pokèmon

Rock pokèmon are a nice sturdy members to anyone’s team. of course like any type i have my favorites, So like always no legends allowed in here, not that i would pick regirock if it was allowed. Stupid regis.

6:https://i0.wp.com/cdn.bulbagarden.net/upload/thumb/9/9a/095Onix.png/250px-095Onix.png Onix: this Rock snake first came to my attention with the anime, first time i encountered in battle against Brock. Its been years since then but i still remember how powerful he became. like many early rock types this one shares the type with ground which is a nice mixing. Onix is an old early fav, and would not deny his spot on this list…(really i wasn’t going to put him on this list, but he insisted)

5:https://i0.wp.com/cdn.bulbagarden.net/upload/thumb/c/c3/696Tyrunt.png/250px-696Tyrunt.pnghttps://i0.wp.com/cdn.bulbagarden.net/upload/thumb/8/8b/697Tyrantrum.png/250px-697Tyrantrum.pngTyrantrum: Most Anicent pokèmon are rock types, as a result there are a lot of really good ancients as a result, i picked two to be on this list. There was a lot of excitment when tyrunt was announced finally a ancient that was a t-rex, on top of that it got dragon attached to it. I must admit i was very impressed by this guy it has a nice move pool and yes having a t-rex on you team is king of cool…but it was not my favorite of the two that came out.

4: https://i0.wp.com/cdn.bulbagarden.net/upload/thumb/2/2a/698Amaura.png/250px-698Amaura.pnghttps://i0.wp.com/cdn.bulbagarden.net/upload/thumb/9/9e/699Aurorus.png/250px-699Aurorus.pngAurorus: I have love brachiosaurs since i was a little kid. so when i spotted this as a new pokèmon i fell instantly fell in love. On top of that this one counters tyruntrum, as an ice type it has the type advantage so this nice peaceful looking pokèmon is a powerful ally.

3: https://i0.wp.com/cdn.bulbagarden.net/upload/thumb/6/69/524Roggenrola.png/250px-524Roggenrola.pnghttps://i0.wp.com/cdn.bulbagarden.net/upload/thumb/c/ce/525Boldore.png/250px-525Boldore.pnghttps://i0.wp.com/cdn.bulbagarden.net/upload/thumb/5/59/526Gigalith.png/250px-526Gigalith.pnggigalith: I became friends Roggenrola, early in the Pokèmon Black game, he was at my side though the elite four. Thanks to a friend i was able to swap my boldore all the way up to Gigalith. For me if a pokèmon earns its place on my team it gets to go though the elite four with me. This one helped me though two gyms and countless battles, holding steady for me allowing one more move in sometimes a rough situation. He earned his place in my team and my heart.

2: https://i0.wp.com/cdn.bulbagarden.net/upload/thumb/7/70/246Larvitar.png/250px-246Larvitar.pnghttps://i0.wp.com/cdn.bulbagarden.net/upload/thumb/a/a1/247Pupitar.png/250px-247Pupitar.pnghttps://i0.wp.com/cdn.bulbagarden.net/upload/thumb/8/82/248Tyranitar.png/250px-248Tyranitar.pnghttps://i0.wp.com/cdn.bulbagarden.net/upload/thumb/0/0d/248Tyranitar-Mega.png/150px-248Tyranitar-Mega.pngTyranitar: This guy has been on my lists before on the top 6 Dark types. Funny he was number two on that list as well, poor guy. This is a powerful rock type and dark type, in fact he maybe the toughest and most powerful one on this list…however it doesn’t make him my favorite. Sorry bud power doesn’t always equal love in my eyes. it probably doesn’t help his case that i haven’t used him in almost 10 years.

1: https://i0.wp.com/upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/f/f3/GeodudeTrio.pngGeodude Family: around since the first generation this family some how always finds its way into my team. However it really wasn’t until Gold and silver, did it really shine for me. I have been over this story, before. with my frist game silver the pick of my starter Chikorita the grass pokèmon. However this would prove to be a bad choice, however there was a little notch on the beginning route, i found my little geodude, a female named dudette. Dudette rolled over the flying gym, the bug gym and the normal gym. Surprisingly it even hanged tough in the fighting and steel gym. It has over the years continued to prove itself. i got mad at x-y for putting onix in so early in the game and only showing me graveler towards the end of the game because i am such a fan of these little guys. Geodude, Graveler and Golum have earned there place as number one on this list.

So What do you think? do You agree, do you disagree? Who are your top 6? leave your comments down below.

Pokèmon Gen IV Review

Pokèmon Pearl, Diamond and platinum, was pokèmon’s first journey into the ds world. We would actually hang out with this system for a little while. This was a good start to the world of duel screens and it is a very strong title for the series in general. We would eventually see the relaunch of Gold and silver with the ds as well, but this is Pearl, Diamond and Platniums Review.

https://i0.wp.com/assets25.pokemon.com/assets/cms/img/video-games/diamondpearl/diamondpearl_maindetail.jpg

I remember when this game first launched i was away at college at the time, i remember getting up real early in the morning while my room mate and the rest of the dorm was still asleep, driving to the local Game Stop on a cold day for the launch, picking up my pearl and driving back getting my same parking spot back. (Ahh the love of sleeping college students) I had my Ds for a little while at this point, and this was my first main stream title for pokèmon i picked up since i got the system. This was probably the last gen i picked up a walk though the day of launch for. i remember studying the three starters carefully before going with turtwig. I never regretted that choice and look forward to reuniting with it one day.

Ok There is that now for the likes and dislikes of this gen. Lets start with the negative this time.

Dislikes.

-The Villain team, Really forgettable…in  fact the only thing i remember them doing all game was blowing up the lake and the magikarps flapping around. That’s all that i remember happening, i had to wiki the story line.

-The story. In general pokèmon has the same formula and the stories are never that strong, this is one of the weaker story lines, to date.

-The Contests…why are they still here?

-to many event pokèmon. Ok this is really starting to bother me the number of event Pokèmon that are just not accessable to me because i am either in another country, or not located near were the current event is going on. Yes i know its now easier with the wifi but really is it. The first couple of generations there was only one event pokèmon, Mew, Celebi, and Deoxies. this gen there were four, Darkri, Phoine, Arceus, and Shaymin. This is to much and honestly a bit of a put off to me. The only one out of this group i got was phonie and its baby maniphy. I have heard tales about the others but it just pisses me off because i don’t have access to them.

-Defog: Why? another useless HM move that thankfully it only lasted one generation:

-Roaming legendaries. Now its no secret by now i don’t like chasing legendaries around, Ruby and Sapphire only had the one, gold and Silver had three, but they are confined to land only and only stay on the johto side. This stinking game had four, and only one is worth my time.

-Another Regi

Likes:

-Pokèmon: this is one of the strongest entries to the game in quite some time, a good mix of old and new and even some new evolutions to old favorites. Even the Starters had a solid set of new comers to the game.

-Use of the Duel Screen. To me this is the best use of the duel screen, i now know its all about being connected to other players world wide but honestly i likes having my map on the other screen, or where that stupid roaming legendary is on the other screen, it made chasing them around a little more bearable and something i wish they would bring back.

-Pal Park, I loved pal park, and in my opinion my favorite way to bring pokèmon from my advanced cartridges into my current games. it was pretty simple and kind of fun too. Pokèmon that had given me such a hard time in the past (I am looking at you Regis) quickly and quietly got back into the ball. Yes it meant that i could no longer return to my advance games, but the other way to look at is i am evacuating them from a battery operated cartage and moving them to a safe game.

-Return of Day night, evening morning…Ect. Thats right the time of day has returned and is better then before. To me this is most significant because it showed players Game Freak actually listens to its fans.

-Physical and Special Attacks, This finally made an impact espeically on those pesky tank pokèmon, having a physcial move some times really help.

-Opening game play, i actually really like that you do off on your own then you have to pick up a pokèmon quick, it gives the illusion of a quick intro at the very least.

-Pokèmon calls: with this generation and better sound available on the ds, the calls got a lot better on the new pokèmon…as did the music.

Now for the pokèmon, i am going to do things slightly different this round, I am going to add another top 7 of favorite new evolutions, just favorites because these post are generally large enough. because there are so many in each category i am increasing it to 7 this round.

top 7 favorite new Evolutions:

7:https://i0.wp.com/cdn.bulbagarden.net/upload/thumb/f/f5/470Leafeon.png/250px-470Leafeon.pnghttps://i0.wp.com/cdn.bulbagarden.net/upload/thumb/2/23/471Glaceon.png/250px-471Glaceon.png Leafeon and Glaceon: Another Two Eeveelutions, and another two adorable new comers to my team eevee. The one that really impressed is Leafon but Glaceon is a beaut and knows it.

6:https://i0.wp.com/cdn.bulbagarden.net/upload/thumb/b/b2/446Munchlax.png/250px-446Munchlax.pngMunchlax: This preevolution to one of my favorite tanks Snorlax. this Cute little guy will eat your out of house and home but will also be a nice tank for you when it grows up as well.

5: https://i0.wp.com/cdn.bulbagarden.net/upload/thumb/2/27/440Happiny.png/250px-440Happiny.pngHappiny: i have always felt that the Chansey Family was a little under appreciated in the past, but with each new gen, 2 and now 4 it gained a new evolution and i feel a new way to appreciate this special wall.

4: https://i0.wp.com/cdn.bulbagarden.net/upload/thumb/5/58/475Gallade.png/250px-475Gallade.pngGallade: Talk about under appreciated, Its counter evolution Garnivor got a mega, this guy did not, where is the love for him. While i have personally never used this guy, he is on the list to take a test run with me soon, i hope he is as impressive as he looks.

3:https://i0.wp.com/cdn.bulbagarden.net/upload/thumb/e/e6/469Yanmega.png/250px-469Yanmega.png Yanmega: I have gone one and on about my love for dragonflys and this pokèmon so i won’t say anything more.

2: https://i0.wp.com/cdn.bulbagarden.net/upload/thumb/b/bc/458Mantyke.png/250px-458Mantyke.pngMantyke: another One whose parent I adore and just blasted its way to level 100 and though Y. Cute and useful.

1https://i0.wp.com/cdn.bulbagarden.net/upload/thumb/8/87/468Togekiss.png/250px-468Togekiss.pngTogekiss: Togepi was on tv a lot in the beginning, and like many players we were a little upset on just how plain useless it turned out to be. Then in Gen IV the gave us Togekiss, a very very useful pokèmon to have on your team, with an impressive move pool and the stats to back it up this is one appoligy note i will gladly accept.

My Top 7 Least favorite Pokèmon of gen IV

7: https://i0.wp.com/cdn.bulbagarden.net/upload/thumb/4/45/456Finneon.png/250px-456Finneon.pngFinneon There is nothing really wrong with this guy really there isn’t. It is on the list for the simple reason that i forgot it existed. that doesn’t bode well when i forget about something.

6: https://i0.wp.com/cdn.bulbagarden.net/upload/thumb/1/18/423Gastrodon.png/250px-423Gastrodon.pngGastrodon: This water Ground snail, usually i like snails but i never warmed up to these two, sorry guys.

5: https://i0.wp.com/cdn.bulbagarden.net/upload/thumb/c/c9/412Burmy-Plant.png/250px-412Burmy-Plant.pngBurmy: Why just why do i need this, why does it need five different forms.

4:https://i0.wp.com/cdn.bulbagarden.net/upload/thumb/f/f4/417Pachirisu.png/250px-417Pachirisu.pngPachirisu: Another useless cute electric type. Look Game Freak i understand why your doing it, but just stop your not helping your cause.

3:https://i0.wp.com/cdn.bulbagarden.net/upload/thumb/b/bf/441Chatot.png/250px-441Chatot.png Chatot: There seems to be in every generation this useless novelty Pokèmon. The ds has a mic on it, this guy tried to take advantage of it. It didn’t really work out for it, and this one ended up in the box.

2:https://i0.wp.com/cdn.bulbagarden.net/upload/thumb/6/63/Lake_guardians_anime.png/220px-Lake_guardians_anime.png Mespite Uxie, Azelf: Have i mentioned how much i hate chasing Pokèmon around, Especially three that were not very useful. I actually named these three Pain, in the, Ass once i caught them.

1:https://i0.wp.com/cdn.bulbagarden.net/upload/thumb/a/a1/486Regigigas.png/250px-486Regigigas.png Regigigas: Ok after last game i thought i was done with the regi family, but nooooo Game Freak had to add one more to my torture, and not only that you need the other three to even get him. Really Game! do you have any idea how much of a pain the first three was to get. Trust me there dad wasn’t much easier. Stupid Regis.

Top 7 Favorites original new to game:

7: https://i0.wp.com/cdn.bulbagarden.net/upload/thumb/f/fa/445Garchomp.png/250px-445Garchomp.pngGarchomp: I didn’t grow to appreciate this creature until recently but this is one bad ass little dragon shark.

6: https://i0.wp.com/cdn.bulbagarden.net/upload/thumb/d/d7/448Lucario.png/250px-448Lucario.pngLucario: another one that because of X and Y i grew to appreciate and love. It has proved itself as a valuable partner and like Garchomp i am sad that it took me that long to know what a great pokèmon it truly is.

5: https://i0.wp.com/cdn.bulbagarden.net/upload/thumb/0/07/Turtwig-grotle-torterra.png/200px-Turtwig-grotle-torterra.pngTurtwig Family: Out of all the starters in this gen and trust me the water and fire are good too, but this was my favorite family. I wonder if he will see a mega?

4:http://bmgf.bulbagarden.net/attachment.php?attachmentid=35576https://i0.wp.com/cdn.bulbagarden.net/upload/thumb/c/c5/487Giratina-Altered.png/250px-487Giratina-Altered.pngGiratina: Hands down my favorite legendary of this generation, it stands head and shoulder above the legends of this generation. Two forms and raw power he became a fast favorite of mine of this generation. Devil or not he is a strong ally for your team.

3:https://i0.wp.com/cdn.bulbagarden.net/upload/thumb/a/af/396Starly.png/250px-396Starly.png  https://i0.wp.com/images4.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20080715122433/es.pokemon/images/d/df/Staravia.pnghttps://i0.wp.com/cdn.bulbagarden.net/upload/thumb/5/5e/398Staraptor.png/250px-398Staraptor.pngStaraptor Family:Pokèmon is always good at giving us Pokèmon in the beginning, however in most cases you either out level your stating team or you just come across better additions to your team, This is not the case with this family. Starly grows up to be a powerful addition to your team and so good it stayed on with me though the Elite Four.  Do not doubt this little bird, for its a great ally for your team.

2: https://i0.wp.com/cdn.bulbagarden.net/upload/thumb/3/32/403Shinx.png/250px-403Shinx.pnghttps://i0.wp.com/cdn.bulbagarden.net/upload/thumb/4/49/404Luxio.png/250px-404Luxio.pnghttps://i0.wp.com/cdn.bulbagarden.net/upload/a/a7/405Luxray.pngLuxray: Finally a Good Electric Pokèmon, not only that this guy is tough, if taught well it can have ice, fire and thunder fang plus Crunch. Not only that its a cat, and a good cat shaped pokèmon, about time! i love this family and if you haven’t used it i highly recommend you do. But Alas this is not my favorite one, its close, so who took number on for me.

1: https://i0.wp.com/cdn.bulbagarden.net/upload/thumb/3/3a/Bronzor-bronzong.png/200px-Bronzor-bronzong.pngBronzong: I love my little Bronzor. When i first met Bronzor, it reminded me of a tambourine, so i named it Tember at the time. With the ability of levitate it removed the problem that previous favorite Metagross had, had with ground types. While it eventually grows into a fairly large bell but it still continues to impress. I recently got a Bronzor though a wonder trade, i think i actually got up and did a happy dance, it was just days after i got Beldem. i look forward to raising it up to be my new ultimate team.

So what are your thoughts on Generation IV did it live up to expectations? Do you remember its launch? What were some of your favorites? Let me know in the comments down below.

My top 6 Favorite Bug Type Pokèmon

Boy have you guys been patient with me. I stopped the top 6’s just short of doing one of my favorite types bugs, because i was encroaching on fighting and ghosts types, honestly two types i have avoided over the years. so i am taking some time to test drive some fighters and ghosts so i can really show you guys what i truly believe to be some of the best. Fortunately bugs i don’t need to test drive because they are some of my favorite types in the game.

Also note, i know i put out a lot of top 6’s before x-y came out, will those lists now change…i am not sure, i know lists now done yet might see some new gen 6 pokèmon, some may not.

Like always legends are not allowed in this list, (sorry genesect)

6: https://i0.wp.com/cdn.bulbagarden.net/upload/thumb/c/c8/Venipede-Whirlipede-Scolipede.png/180px-Venipede-Whirlipede-Scolipede.pngScolipede family: Honestly i have never really used this family myself, however i have seen this family in battle and fought against them. There is no denying that this is a strong pokèmon, and it has peaked my curiosity as well. I love its designed and i very much hope that one day i get the honor of really test driving it.

5:    https://i0.wp.com/cdn.bulbagarden.net/upload/thumb/f/f4/636Larvesta.png/250px-636Larvesta.png https://i0.wp.com/cdn.bulbagarden.net/upload/thumb/6/6b/637Volcarona.png/250px-637Volcarona.pngVolcarona: This high level evolver turned out to be quite the interesting team mate when i sent it from black to black2. Turned out to quite powerful, and its a rare thing in the bug world of pokèmon for it to take so long to evolve. I found though that this guy turned out to be a nice ally to balance my team, i did however find it dying a lot as its first form larvesta, but like most things time and Patience is needed for this bug, but if you wait you will get a nice little mothy ally for you team.

4:  https://i0.wp.com/cdn.bulbagarden.net/upload/thumb/7/71/127Pinsir.png/250px-127Pinsir.png  https://i0.wp.com/static3.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20131116113627/pokemon/images/9/9e/Mega_Pinsir.pngPinsir: Poor Pinsir as gotten very little respect over the years, When Gen I came out there were two bugs you could get that could be power houses for you team Scyther and pinsir. Scyther would grow over the years to get a new evolution and grow to be a powerful little bug…but pinsir was left behind. Then Gen 6 rolled around and so did Mega evolution. Both these guys got a mega form, however in my personal opinion i like Pinsir’s better. It really unleashes this guys inner bad ass. Maybe now he will get the respect he deserves.

3: https://i0.wp.com/cdn.bulbagarden.net/upload/thumb/d/dd/193Yanma.png/250px-193Yanma.png   https://i0.wp.com/cdn.bulbagarden.net/upload/thumb/e/e6/469Yanmega.png/250px-469Yanmega.pngYanma: Ok this one is here not because i fight with it, because i love Dragonfly’s. Ever since i was a little girl i have, i have necklaces with them on it, i have caught them in real life and i have also enjoyed it when they simply landed on me to take a break. So to me seeing a dragonfly pokèmon put me over the moon, When it got an evolution in gen 4 i was a fan for life. I love this guy, its design its just perfect. Its just too bad i have other bugs i like more in this game.

2: https://i0.wp.com/cdn.bulbagarden.net/upload/thumb/f/f8/595Joltik.png/250px-595Joltik.pnghttps://i0.wp.com/img.pokemondb.net/artwork/galvantula.jpgJoltik. Ok Confession time in real life i hate ticks, they are all over the place here and there creepy and disgusting however this little tick is just to damn cute. I did not see a tick when i first met this thing in Chargestone cave. I thought actually it was a spider when i first met it…guess i am not as much of a bug expert as i thought. All i thought when i saw this guy was awww how cute. I just love how cute this guy is and it did make its way to my team, while not the strongest it maybe the cutest of the bugs. this little guy can nip on me any day.

1: https://i0.wp.com/cdn.bulbagarden.net/upload/thumb/b/ba/123Scyther.png/250px-123Scyther.pnghttps://i0.wp.com/cdn.bulbagarden.net/upload/thumb/5/55/212Scizor.png/250px-212Scizor.pnghttps://i0.wp.com/static3.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20131116112734/pokemon/images/6/69/Mega_Scizor.pngScizor:  Scyther and I have been buddies from the beginning, when playing pokèmon with my brother he was always picked Pinsir I always picked Scyther. I honestly thought he was the best bug back then….then gen II game around and it got better. Scizor is just an awesome bug to have on your team, he is quite skilled in helping you catch other members of your team (best false swipe user in the game) and with his steel type he can take a real hit.  i must admit though i am not quite sold on his mega form yet, but Scizor has been a constant on my team for a very long time, and the years have been kind to my favorite bug. Scizor i think shall always be my favorite bug.

This concluded my top 6 favorite bug pokèmon, what are your thoughts?

I am currently working on gen IV review which i hope to have up by the end of this week, next week at the latest. Until next time…thank you for reading.

My top 6 favorite dark Pokèmon

Dark type has been a favorite type of mine since its introduction in gen 2. Picking just 6 proved difficult some times, but this one i found relatively easy. Again no legendaries allowed.

6:   https://i0.wp.com/cdn.bulbagarden.net/upload/thumb/9/98/318Carvanha.png/160px-318Carvanha.png   https://i0.wp.com/cdn.bulbagarden.net/upload/thumb/a/a8/319Sharpedo.png/180px-319Sharpedo.png Sharpedo: Sharpedo had to share the number three spot on my top 6 favorite water, but not here. Sharpedo is one of those dark horse pokèmon that are not used often but can be a powerful force to be not be ignored. i have said it before that gen III has some great candidates in every category and its pokèmon like sharpedo that make me look forward to a re-release of gen III’s Ruby and Sapphire.

5:   https://i0.wp.com/cdn.bulbagarden.net/upload/thumb/7/70/686Inkay.png/250px-686Inkay.png https://i0.wp.com/cdn.bulbagarden.net/upload/thumb/e/e4/687Malamar.png/250px-687Malamar.png Malamar: Pokèmon has always been know to have known to make weird combos, Inkay is defiantly up thier with weird combos and weird evolutions. This Psychic/dark type is just a weird but a powerful little guy, i named mine bloop when i spotted it because it reminded me of the Bloober from Mario. Lets get this straight Dark was created to balance out the uber powerful Psychic types, Dark became weak to fighting, and psychic is strong against it. However both suck against bugs. This guy also learns some flying moves like peck making it a pretty decent critter. Besides evolving upside down this weird combo slide easily into my top 6.

4:  https://i0.wp.com/cdn.bulbagarden.net/upload/5/53/228Houndour.png  https://i0.wp.com/cdn.bulbagarden.net/upload/thumb/5/51/229Houndoom.png/250px-229Houndoom.png  Houndoom Family: I think when most people think Dark Pokèmon this is the first guy that comes to mind. Houndoom is one of the original dark types that was introduced in gen II. He was known for his speed making him a great strike fighter. This guy hasn’t changed much, but did get a mega Evolution. Not the look people were hoping for but still anything to make this guy just a little more fierce is cool by me. Honestly it has never frighten me it had a great coloration, not the best defense in the world still i was happy to see it again.

3:https://i0.wp.com/cdn.bulbagarden.net/upload/thumb/f/f7/633Deino.png/250px-633Deino.png    https://i0.wp.com/cdn.bulbagarden.net/upload/a/a6/634Zweilous.png    Hydreigon: This guy is another one that has been on my lists before, in fact was number one on the dragon list. He is also a dark type and a powerful at that. I won’t go on long  about this guy because he has been on the list. I said it before and i will say it again, you do not spend 64 levels with anything in this game without becoming attached to it.

2:  https://i0.wp.com/cdn.bulbagarden.net/upload/thumb/7/70/246Larvitar.png/250px-246Larvitar.png https://i0.wp.com/cdn.bulbagarden.net/upload/thumb/a/a1/247Pupitar.png/250px-247Pupitar.png  https://i0.wp.com/cdn.bulbagarden.net/upload/thumb/8/82/248Tyranitar.png/250px-248Tyranitar.pngTyranitar: This Powerful Pokèmon has long been a favorite of mine.
This was the high level evolver in Gen II and spends its first two levels as a ground/rock Pokemon. It is at 55 when it evolves to his final evolution the great and powerful tyranitar. This Rock/Dark type learns rock, ground and darks best moves naturally, plus with tms, can pick up ice, fire, dragon and eletrics best moves, making him a powerful and unpredictable beast. I just picked up a new larvitar today and look forward to making it as big and powerful as in years past…and to make life even better for fans of this guy guess who has a mega.

1: https://i0.wp.com/cdn.bulbagarden.net/upload/thumb/3/3d/197Umbreon.png/250px-197Umbreon.pngUmbreon: This guys has been on lists before as well, and as you have seen i am a huge eevee fan. Umbreon and Espeon are hands down my favorite of the family. Umbreon is a pure dark and all heart. It helps that both Umbreon and sibling evolve by affection towards you and time of day. It like all Eevee’s learns the stand by moves, shadow ball and bite. While not as powerful as my number two, i have been though a lot with this guy and its hard not acknowledge this Eevee with a dark type with a heart.

So what do you think? do you agree? disagree? is Their someone you missed. Next time Dark and Psychic’s nemesis Bug.

My Top 6 Favorite Flying Pokèmon

Flying is one of the more unique types in the game, its one of the few types that only has one pure type…that is right only one pure flying pokèmon. This type has mixed with just about every type out there. So there is another rule with this one besides no legendary here. It must be a bird of some kind.

6:https://i0.wp.com/upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/1/16/PidgeyTrio.png  Pidgy family: this one almost didn’t make the list, but for a lot of players including myself this is one of your first wild catches. Honestly as much slack as this family gets, its not a terrible first family.  Considering over the years i have seen a lot worse starting  flyers. *Cough Cough pidove*. Excuse me. Pokèmon x has given me a chance to once again look at this first family of bird pokèmon on the skills it now learns are impressive. While still not my first pick for a flyer there is still no denying that that family is still a contender in the flying arena.

5:https://i0.wp.com/cdn.bulbagarden.net/upload/thumb/7/7e/661Fletchling.png/250px-661Fletchling.png https://i0.wp.com/cdn.bulbagarden.net/upload/thumb/c/ce/662Fletchinder.png/96px-662Fletchinder.pnghttps://i0.wp.com/cdn.bulbagarden.net/upload/thumb/a/ae/663Talonflame.png/250px-663Talonflame.png   Talonflame family:  This one the first Pokèmon on my lists from X-Y, and its deserving of the spot. You pick this guy up around the same time as you pick up pidgy. Fletchling is a adorable and its one of those pokèmon that to me doesn’t have a bad looking evolution, the middle one looks like a blue jay to me. My little Fe (what i named it) was a great team member and probably would have stayed with me to the end if i didn’t re-fall in love with Crobat. If you pick up this game pick yourself up a fletchling you won’t be disappointed by this little fire bird.

4:    https://i0.wp.com/cdn.bulbagarden.net/upload/thumb/6/6b/175Togepi.png/160px-175Togepi.png     https://i0.wp.com/cdn.bulbagarden.net/upload/thumb/1/11/176Togetic.png/110px-176Togetic.png     https://i0.wp.com/cdn.bulbagarden.net/upload/thumb/8/87/468Togekiss.png/250px-468Togekiss.pngTogekiss family: this Family first introduced to players before Gold and silver had even hit our shores, it was a normal type with one one evolution. In gen IV (Pearl and Diamond, heart gold Soul Silver) this Family gained a third more powerful evolution making it a real contender in competitive battle. Now with this current gen this family is once again undergoing a change, this time its type. That’s right this family is now a fairy type, while i current don’t have at a Togepi in the current game, i look forward to seeing what this little guy can do now.

3:https://i0.wp.com/upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/0/06/Pok%C3%A9mon_Aerodactyl_art.png   Aerodactyl: Let me start by saying, i hate his mega form, it just doesn’t do it for me. that being said i have always really liked Aerodactyl. For a flyer with a rock typing with it, this guy has always been really fast. Its a powerful ancient flyer that if raised right could put a serious cramp in everyone style. its one Ancient fossil that deserves its resurrection.

2:  https://i0.wp.com/cdn.bulbagarden.net/upload/thumb/8/8b/021Spearow.png/250px-021Spearow.png https://i0.wp.com/cdn.bulbagarden.net/upload/thumb/a/a0/022Fearow.png/250px-022Fearow.pngFearow Family: I really didn’t pay much attention to this bird in the first gen. However the second gen i managed to pick up this guy pretty early in the game. Spearow stayed at my side all the way until the end of the game. i never realized how tough and powerful this guy was until that gen. With a powerful learned move drill peck, which at the time i only though zapdos knew. While not as pretty as some of the other birds on my list, it should not be ignored.

1:  https://i0.wp.com/cdn.bulbagarden.net/upload/thumb/a/af/396Starly.png/150px-396Starly.png     https://i0.wp.com/cdn.bulbagarden.net/upload/thumb/f/f8/397Staravia.png/200px-397Staravia.png   https://i0.wp.com/cdn.bulbagarden.net/upload/thumb/5/5e/398Staraptor.png/200px-398Staraptor.png    Staraptor family: Hands Down the best of the starting bird pokèmon you get, Gen Four has some great pokèmon in it, from previous entry Luxray to Staraptor a lot of truly greats were added too our dexs. Not only does this one has the standard moves most normal birds learn, what it learns naturally like close combat and Brave bird this is one tough bird and a dare say one of the greats. I have become a huge fan of this guy and its family and its hands down the top bird of flying types.

My Top 6 Favorite Electric Pokèmon

Electric types, honestly this for many is the earliest type we are introduced to, in the form of Pikachu. However like Fire pokèmon there are not that many elecrtic types. only 1-3 added each game series. It makes this category as small as Fire. Still when you find them in each game they often become important to the team, for their help capturing new pokèmon, or there natural move sets that can make these guys a serious threat to water and flying pokèmon in the game. Sadly there are also quite a few toss away electrics out there as well. So in my opinion who are the best of the best in the field of electric that is not a legendary (Sorry Zappy)

6:    https://i0.wp.com/cdn.bulbagarden.net/upload/thumb/f/f8/595Joltik.png/250px-595Joltik.png    https://i0.wp.com/cdn.bulbagarden.net/upload/thumb/7/7a/596Galvantula.png/250px-596Galvantula.png     Joltik: I fell instantly in love with this little guy when i first saw him…yes i know there is a far better electric in that game, do i care no. Look how adorable Joltik is. Its evolved form Galvantula is nice looking too but not as charmingly cute as its unevolved form. did i eventually have to swap it out for a more powerful pokèmon, yes, did i enjoy having it on my team while it was their absolutly. Would i take the time now with the way things are currently laid out in x to get to know it better, Absolutely. Just can’t help but love that face.

5:          https://i0.wp.com/images2.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20100615033404/pokemon/images/c/ca/Shimama.png        https://i0.wp.com/cdn.bulbagarden.net/upload/thumb/a/a1/523Zebstrika.png/250px-523Zebstrika.pngZebstrika: after 6 generations of pokèmon there are still only three families of horse Pokèmon, Ponyta, Keldeo (this is a special event guy who i have never caught myself) and blitzle. This makes Horse’s one of the rarer animal types in the game. One thing you can always depend on with the horses is that they are fast, which is usually a standby thing for electric anyways.  You Pick up this family pretty early in gen five and they do a decent job. I love the looks of this guy and would haven’t kept it all game long but sadly as the case with ponyta, their are just better faster stronger guys out there. Sorry buddy.

4: https://i0.wp.com/cdn.bulbagarden.net/upload/thumb/b/bb/135Jolteon.png/250px-135Jolteon.png Jolteon: This one should not be a surprise to anyone at this point concidering how big of an eevee fan I am. Jolteon is one of the three original Evolutions. Before Bite became darkm Jolteon was the only eevee to learn any moves that could challenge mewtwo. It learn the fairly weak now pin missile a bug move. It also naturally learns Double kick, giving this Eevee a leg up on ground types that are looking to wreck its world.  I would say honestly jolteon maybe my 3rd favorite eevee member behind umbreon and Espeon, This classic is still hard to ignore in the field of combat.

3: https://i0.wp.com/cdn.bulbagarden.net/upload/thumb/6/6b/179Mareep.png/140px-179Mareep.pnghttps://i0.wp.com/cdn.bulbagarden.net/upload/thumb/6/6f/180Flaaffy.png/135px-180Flaaffy.pnghttps://i0.wp.com/cdn.bulbagarden.net/upload/thumb/4/47/181Ampharos.png/250px-181Ampharos.pngAmpharos Family: To explain this one i have to take you back to Gen II.  Just starting out on my second game Journey all i had in my team was Chikorita, Sentret geodude and spearow, with a whole lot of game ahead of me. If i wanted to beat this game…heck even the first gym i needed an electric pokèmon and i needed one quick. Then a met mareep, this electric cotton ball sheep. between it and Geodude most of gym leaders fell to out combo. Type for handling this pokèmon, never stop it from evolving to ampharos, it learns thunder punch right off the bat.  I have never forgotten the help this guy gave me that game, and was quite pleased to get a chance to raise a new one in black 2. This is a one of the good electrics and is well deserving of its mega evolution…even if it looks goofy.

2:  https://i0.wp.com/cdn.bulbagarden.net/upload/thumb/3/32/403Shinx.png/200px-403Shinx.png https://i0.wp.com/cdn.bulbagarden.net/upload/thumb/4/49/404Luxio.png/200px-404Luxio.png https://i0.wp.com/cdn.bulbagarden.net/upload/thumb/a/a7/405Luxray.png/200px-405Luxray.pngLuxray: Gen Four was full of great pokèmon, especially early game Pokèmon. This family is no exception, especially if you spend some time with this guy at the breeders. You can have a great Shinx that knows right from the egg, Ice, Fire and thunder fang as well as crunch, now you have a little electric bad ass on your team that will not take nothing from anyone. On top of that if you get one with intimidate you drop your opponent defense as well. This guy is a dream for any electric lovers out their, easy to raise tough as nails, get it early, cute as a button and its pretty much a lion! So why isn’t this guy my number one?

1: https://i0.wp.com/cdn.bulbagarden.net/upload/thumb/0/0d/025Pikachu.png/205px-025Pikachu.pngPikachu: Because with out pikachu there would be no other lists, i would have never played the game. i probably never known what Pokèmon was. This little electric mouse has changed my world and for the better part of 16 years for me. As most of you know Pokèmon Yellow was my very first game, making Pikachu my very first pokèmon. though the years have gone by i was surprised when making this list on how quick it was for me to put him on it. On top of that how much i missed him. To confess though I did not really realize how much i missed him until i started playing x and when i entered the not viridian “but it sure looks and feels like it” forest. The Npc hinted at a Pikachu so i hunted for one, i must have spent a half hour in there just looking for one, and then i found him. Now i only name Pokèmon in the game i intend to use, so i named him Bolt and i had him with me for quite a while. I am impressed now about his new moves and the new ones he can now learn.  I guess you never forget your first one, and for me Its pikachu.
